Social Media…. crazy about it? That makes two of us…
Cancer. A word all too familiar in households across the world. A crippling disease that not only tries to overtake the person it infects, but also the friends and families that feel its presence. In recent years, the fight against cancer has been a large topic of conversation. Society has banded together to create programs that benefit cancer research – from memorial foundations to cancer walks or runs, and other means of funding the research to eradicate this disease. This includes a foundation started by one brave boy who found himself face-to-face with the fight for his life.
Malcolm was diagnosed at age 10. He shares his brave and inspiring story – how he went from an active, avid soccer player to a frequent visitor of a hospital bed in a short matter of time. He is a fighter, however, and his story will absolutely inspire you.
Malcolm’s story is all too real – no one wants to see a child suffer and deal with something as serious as cancer at such a young stage in their life. It also opens the eyes to those who learn more about it and realize this ratio: 1 in 320. 1 in 320 children will be diagnosed with some form of childhood cancer. While heartbreaking, there is still hope and a push to help find a cure.
With the knowledge that less than 3% of federal cancer research dollars from the government is dedicated to pediatric cancer research – Malcolm created Make Some Noise, a non-profit created to build awareness and help fund childhood cancer research. Foundations like this are the lifeblood to kids cancer research, as well as cancer research across all ages and afflictions.
Malcolm learned how to walk without a hip. He continues to persevere through his therapies and is the epitome of strength and adversity in the face of his disease. To donate or learn more, visit Make Some Noise on the web.
Cupa Cabana is thrilled to be a part of the 7th annual Noise Night at the Park Savoy in Florham Park, NJ. Noise night includes live jazz, casino games and auctions – and what makes this one so special is it will be the last dinner auction as Malcolm heads to COLLEGE and Noise Night moves to NJPAC in 2017 to become a performance evening.

Over the course of the last week, hosts from ABC’s Prime Time television show “Shark Tank” have gone head to head on Good Morning America in a competition to prove who is the absolute best of the best.
The finalists, Barbara Corcoran and Robert Herjavec, had outwitted and outperformed the rest of the show’s hosts straight to the competition’s final event.
On Friday November 21, 2014 the expert entrepreneurs and investors squared off head to head in the Coffee Cart Competition. It all came down to who could make the most money selling Cupa Cabana Coffee on the streets of New York. Contestants set the price of their coffee and got to work! They had 30 minutes to sell as much coffee as possible. The results were pretty impressive.
If you missed the final “Shark vs. Shark” Showdown catch up by watching it here!
And the Winner is…
Robert Herjavec was the clear winner, offering his coffee at $2 a cup, and selling a total of $374. Barbara was able to sell a much higher volume by offering her coffee for 25 Cents. Despite selling more volume, Barabara was unable to surpass Robert’s efforts and earned a modest $276.
Selling $650 worth of coffee in a half an hour is no small feat. Not a drop of the 20 plus gallons of coffee we had brewed went to waste, no wonder the competitors are known for their business acumen!
We were honored to be included in such an awesome day!
As a mobile catering company, we have been some pretty cool places and served espresso and coffee at some pretty amazing events. One of our favorite events so far this summer was The Dr. Oz Healthy Heart Clinic this past weekend at the Atrium at Harborside located on Jersey City’s waterfront. Jersey City was Dr. Oz’s first stop on his national campaign to raise awareness for his chief concern- the Health of America’s Heart.
Participants had their Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, and Waist Measurements taken (The three numbers that Dr. Oz would like Americans to be more cognizant of) and analyzed. A conveniently provided printout helped demonstrate these results. Guests were also exposed to various of heart demonstrations, nutritional guidance, and complimentary herb plants and general information about local heart healthy programs and even the opportunity to meet Dr. Oz!
Our favorite part of the day was providing guests with freshly prepared smoothies- Dr Oz’s Heart Healthy Smoothies to be exact. We have provided the recipe below.
Dr Oz’s Heart Healthy Smoothie Recipe
1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1/4 cup strawberries (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup unsweetened orange juice
1/2 cup fat-free plain yogurt
1 tsp chia seed
1 ripe banana
Directions: Add all ingredients and ice into the blender. Blend until ice cubes have become very fine.
Dr. Oz’s recipe is delicious, nutritious and easy to make at home! We were honored to have been part of such a great day that helped raise awareness about heart health healthy living. The combined efforts of Dr. Oz, his staff, the city of Jersey City, The Jersey City Medical Center, and Barnabas Health ensured that all the participants had an amazing and informational day.
Dr Oz and Marianne Cordillo (Cupa Cabana Founder) enjoy the Dr Oz Heart Healthy Smoothie.
