Fact #1: 500 billion cups of coffee are consumed each year.
Coffee is the most popular beverage in the world, with more than 500 billion cups consumed each year. Over 2 billion cups of coffee are enjoyed throughout the world each day and 450 million cups consumed in the United States alone.
Fact #2: Robusta beans have twice as much caffeine than Arabica beans.
Robusta beans have around 2.2 – 2.7% caffeine, whereas the more common Arabica beans have only 1.2 – 1.5%. The higher caffeine in Robusta also lends to a bitter flavor in brewed coffee, but when you’re looking for an effective jumpstart to your day, it will surely do the trick!
Fact #3: Classical composers were inspired by coffee.
Beethoven was such an ardent coffee lover that he’d count 60 beans per cup before making his brew. Johann Sebastian Bach wrote a cantata inspired by a woman’s coffee adoration.
Fact #4: Coffee was discovered by goats.
Legend has it a 9th-century Ethiopian goat herder discovered coffee by accident when he noticed how crazy the beans were making his goats when they ate them.
